Settling in.

We have finally made it to our final destination on this summer long moving process to Maryland and we are trying get as settled as possible here.  Uprooting your business and moving it to a different state can definitely shake thing up a bit but I am confident as the list settles I will be able to get back into my groove!

A little about our move and where we are now…

We are currently in Maryland about halfway between Baltimore and Washington DC.  When our household goods were delivered I had high hopes of as great of an experience as we had for pack out.  That however, was not the case. Unfortunately a good bit of our belongings were damaged along the way and in the process of getting our furniture into our new home.   I know this is to be expected but still disappointing.  I had to remind myself that it was just things and things can be replaced.

Since we are downsizing here in Maryland from our home in South Carolina (going from a two-plus car garage and a basement to no garage or basement at all) things are a little cramped.  Currently, my dining room, or what should be my dining room, is housing the contents of my SC garage, and husband’s workshop.  I sold my beautiful 7 foot farmhouse table before our move as I didn’t think we would have room for it in out new house, so there are just boxes everywhere.

I love the historic charm and character of our home here on post (we live on an military base).  Our home was built in 1932so hallways and doorways are narrow and we have had to come up with some creative storage solutions but I love the detail in the window frames and stairwell.

Our community is pretty great too! My husband says I am getting the “Army Wives” experience I have always wanted with living on post.  I just think its amazing the kids next door are the same age as mine and their mom and I get along! Did I mention that there is a legit playground practically in my backyard? I mean seriously, so convenient.  Because this base houses departments from all branches of service I don’t feel like the lone Marine Corps wife here.  There is Marine Corps, Navy, Army and Air Force all within a few doors of me.

All in all, I am going to have to get used to the Capitol region traffic again but if that is the only downside I have found yet to living here I will take it!  So thats how we’re settling in, if you have recently moved I hope you’re settling in too!
